Is Persecution a matter of “wrong place at the wrong time?”

Research institute blames “geography” for the mounting acts of persecution toward Christians around the world.

An article in Stanford University’s Hoover Institute unpacks the increase in persecution of Christian around the world. Their primary reasoning? Geography. Christian groups and churches experience persecution in far greater numbers because they are everywhere. Other religious groups like the Druze and Yezidi experience persecution, but they are isolated to much smaller regions in the world

Geography, according to author, is the prime reason for this increase of acts against Christians around the world. According to author R. Berman, Islamists target Christians simply because they are present. Because they are available, Christians are  “the most likely target, which is why they are the primary victim of Islamist radicalism” (Dec. 2025, par. 5)

While noting many seek to discount this persecution because other groups experience similar opposition, the author warns that this persecution toward Christians not only include discrimination and hatred, but also “violent assaults, including mob attacks, bombings, and murderous targeting by terrorists” (par. 6) Read more here: https://www.hoover.org/research/christians-under-assault
