Richard T. Harrell

Writer, Teacher, Novelist

Exploring faith, art, and the values of Western culture through stories, novels, and devotional writing.

My Journey

My years as a pastor and missionary in the US and Europe greatly impacted my writing and my world-view. After seminary, I pastored in the inner city of Dallas, in San Antonio, the Quad-Cities and Newnan in the ATL area, and my home town of North Myrtle Beach, SC. My role often landed me in the disciple-making, outreach, teaching, writing side of ministry.

More recently, I worked with churches and non-profits in Italy helping reach and train students to give away their faith. It was during these years that my love for art and western values strengthened.

I discovered a love for writing early in my teens, wrote my first short story at fourteen (the wizard with bushy eyebrows and long, white beard turned out to be taken by an earlier author.) I merged writing into my roles from then on developing curriculum, revising books, and writing articles, devotionals, and bible studies and training others to write well. I teach Creative Writing and Literature currently for a Christian college.

While I was a young Christian working on the beach, I experienced a personal spiritual awakening linked to the Asbury Revival of the Seventies. Since then, I’ve been a part of unique spiritual movements that have both formed me and informed my writing.

My wife, Susan, and my three children, Becca who works as a paramedic alongside her fire-fighter husband, Bryan, Joseph who serves as a worship pastor, and Rachael, who serves her church as graphic artist and media director are the most trusted fans of my writing. Grandson, Ezra, will join them when he starts reading.

My great desire is that what I write takes you deeper in your friendship with Jesus, brings you further into the call to change our culture for Him, and causes you to see the beauty of our faith in the art and life we enjoy.
