Making today creative.

For all the Creatives in our world, I hope my devotions on the nexus of Art and Spirit help take the pressure off. Church and, for that matter, most of our culture drives each of us to find and run hard after purpose.

We have purpose-driven people, churches, ministries, careers, crafts, hobbies, and babies. Yes, purpose-driven baby books are here! And they all come with journals. We are awash in purpose. Books, podcasts, self-help sites – they all encourage us to: a) find our purpose, b) reorient our schedules to that purpose, and to c) synch our grids with the wonderful plan God has for us.

I’m not knocking it, really. Intentionality is my favorite word right behind tiramasu and sleep-in (if compound words count.)

After all, if we aim at nothing, we are almost certain to sink the arrow of our lives deep into the middle of nothing. God has created each of us for a purpose, and that purpose is…

To get a life. Really. God puffed your lungs and mine full of hot air so we could live. Now that I have cleared the fog from your purpose-driven mind, brought clarity and focus to your life-direction, I want to encourage you to lighten up…and create! Sculpt, write, draw, paint, act, build, engineer, dance, and every other way you can what, in its creation, honors our Creator.

You’ll see some devotionals dedicated to Creatives. Some of what I write has become defining, or at least clarifying for my life. The rest I’ve learned along the way that encourages me to make life count for eternity.
